We Shouldn't edition by Vi Keeland Jessica Royer Ocken Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • They were each other’s competition, until competing was the one thing that no longer mattered. An enemies-to-lovers romance that will steal your heart!

A company merger brought them together and the sparks fly!!!! They are competing for the same position. One of them will stay and the other will have to relocate to Texas.

Annalise was gorgeous, driven, successful and heartbroken. Fresh off a break up with her boyfriend of eight years, she’s a little out of sorts and a bit naive about men. Bennett’s about to school her in more ways than one.

Bennett is totally hot, the kind of guy you sleep with for awhile but has no plans on forever. He’s all alpha and feels an immediate need to both protect and stake his claim on Annalise. However, there is so much more to Bennett than what you see at first glance.

Maybe they can compete for the job and be more? They know what they have has an expiration date, but sometimes the consequences don’t matter.

A super sexy read with a fantastic build up! They were enemies who became friends and then a whole lot more than either expected. You will fall in love with Bennett and all his imperfections!
  • With each new book, she manages to write characters you fall in love with, imperfections and all. I was hooked from the get go but that nickname sealed the deal. Bennett and Annalise may be competing for clients at work but outside of that they're in sync even if they don't realize it. Bennett is smooth, hot, intelligent, a gentleman and definitely swoon worthy. Annalise is no slouch, she's smart, savvy and gorgeous. She gives as much as she gets and has a heart of gold. This is a definite must read.
  • I absolutely love Vi Keeland’s writing. I know going into one of her stories that it’ll be a richly told, well-written love story that is complex and complicated—the kind of love that isn’t easily earned. Her characters are interesting, strong and formidable, and I know that she will put me through the emotional wringer, but it will be worth every gut-clenching moment to get there. Hers aren’t always easy to tell love stories, the great ones never are, but they’re consuming, all-encompassing and the kinds of stories that I get completely wrapped up in, and I absolutely love that about Keeland’s writing.

We Shouldn’t, appropriately named, wasn’t your typical office romance. Bennett and Annalise were rivals, pitted against each other, competing for something they both wanted badly. Antagonistic and adversarial with an edge of attraction, their chemistry sizzled off the page. Every encounter between them seemed to bump up the heat beneath the pot of their simmering lust. When they weren’t throwing barbs and bantering back-and-forth, they were practically scalding each other with the heat burning between them. Their relationship was an intense and forbidden, a raging storm of emotion and passion, and I simply couldn’t get enough.

Bennett Fox is my kind of hero. A bit broken and scarred, this bad boy worked hard to hide his good heart with a sexy, guarded demeanor. But there was so much more to this damaged man than he let show, opting instead to use a carefully constructed façade of arrogant cockiness and sarcasm to shield the good guy underneath. This was a man who needed healing, or more aptly, he needed a reason to allow himself to heal—and he found it in Annalise O’Neil. His usual M.O. was to play it fast and loose with the rules, but all that went out the window once Annalise entered his orbit.

From her OCD tendencies and color-coded files, to her mile long legs and bombshell beauty, he just couldn’t seem to employ those tactics against her. Bennett’s inner musings, cluelessness and utter confusion over his feelings were one of my favorite parts of this character’s development. Annalise was thoughtful, kind and, most importantly, honest, and despite her own trust issues and the broken heart she was nursing, she wound up being his perfect counterpart. I loved how she was able to see through Bennett’s act and call him on it. It was her willingness, despite her own relationship history, to take a leap of faith that ultimately guided them through the rollercoaster of emotions they needed to deal with to get to something real.

This couple had their work cut out for them to get to their happily ever after. They had big obstacles in their path, and they had to sift through some heavy baggage to get there. Keeland takes readers along for the ride in We Shouldn’t with an emotional and hard-fought romance that was as hot as it was humorous. I was positively enthralled by this love story, and I devoured this book with heart-racing anticipation in a day. Five smooches from me for We Shouldn’t by Vi Keeland!
  • I went into We Shouldn’t by Vi Keeland totally blind. Other than seeing the cover, I did not read any blurbs or teasers. I had no idea what it would be about. And I couldn’t be happier!
I loved We Shouldn’t. Enemies to lovers are my favorite tropes. Especially when they take place in the office. I adored Bennett & Annalise from the beginning. Their banter & sexual tension was both steamy and fun. In addition to the fun and steamy parts, there was a bit of an unexpected emotional part to We Shouldn’t as well. And that definitely brought more than a few tears to my eyes.
We Shouldn’t will be one of my top reads of 2019. It was so well written and had everything I love in a Vi Keeland book...plenty of steam, a great story & characters that stay with you long after the book is done!
  • One thing you absolutely SHOULD do? Read this book.

Read it for Bennett, who has a heart much bigger than he realizes. He has convinced himself that he is unworthy of love, undeserving even. And yet, despite his occasional misfires, he shows you over and over again that he has a big, beating, thriving heart that yearns to love and be loved.

Read it for Annalise, who proves herself willing to assume the best in people, even when doing so works against her. She operates from a position of fairness ... most of the time, anyway. Something about Bennett gets under her skin every now and then, and it is DELIGHTFUL.

Read it for the witty interplay between these two. Vi Keeland will have you laughing one minute and your eyes flooding the next.

Read it for the sexy times, which are scorching hot. Do you expect anything less from Vi Keeland?

Read it because this is one of those books that feels fun and flirty and frisky.
  • Do I dare say that We Shouldn't by Vi Keeland is one of my all-time Vi favorites? I shouldn't say it because I hate to play favorites. I'm so excited for you guys to meet Bennett and Annalise. We Shouldn't was unputdownable. Ok, I'm lying I actually did pick up a SECOND time and reread a few funny scenes. Buy this book? WE SHOULD! This book will be on my Best of 2019 list. All the stars!
